Today marks 23 years since Waterlution was founded Today marks 23 years since Waterlution was founded. What began over two decades ago as an ambition to reimagine our relationship with water has grown into an international network of youth leaders, community facilitators, artists, and innovators.
If you’ve been along for the ride, we’d love to hear from you. What is one favourite memory, lesson, or connection you’ve made through Waterlution? 💬👇

“Plants to Pigments: A Community-Based Art Workshop Series” was designed to bring local island residents of all ages together through a creative practice rooted in appreciating the ecosystems we live amongst. Over three workshops on SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island. Participants were guided in transforming plants such as marigolds and red cabbage into watercolour paints.
Gathering over the summer to process plant pigments, share meals, and paint by the ocean inspired ways to see plants, and our relationships to them, in a new way.
Congrats on the workshops @oceantimeeden!

Let’s give it up for #Y4RC participants Nana and t Let’s give it up for #Y4RC participants Nana and their Community Service Project : Community Potluck at Farm! 🥕
“Community Potluck at Farm was hosted with the goal of rebuilding people’s relationships with food by bringing people together to experience the joy of sharing a meal and learning about sustainable farming. A knowledgeable and enthusiastic @sharingfarm Society staff, Kalayla, helped run an amazing farm tour for the participants, which was followed by a potluck. The potluck was held in front of the farm where we shared different cultural dishes, fresh food from the farm, and reflected on our relationships with food.”

“Green Pathways Youth Day Cam” is a one-day outdoor experience that engaged 20 newcomer youth in nature, environmental learning, sports, and well-being activities, organized through participation in the Y4RC program and with the support of an Ocean Action Grant from @oceanwise, and collaboration with Links For Greener Learning and @CivicPathwaysforRefugees.
The youth had the opportunity to connect with nature, learn about environmental challenges, share ideas, and build connections with each other. By helping newcomer youth develop a stronger connection with nature and understand how they can take action in their communities, the project contributed to building more connected, environmentally aware, and climate-resilient communities.
Congrats on this huge achievement Ishag!

Yesterday, we officially kicked off our newest #Y4 Yesterday, we officially kicked off our newest #Y4RC cohort, our first cohort focused around the unique climate change impacts faced by the northern regions of Canada.
In 19 days, these young leaders will gather in person in the Northwest Territories for an immersive Collaboratorium featuring land-based activities, cultural teaching, rich conversations, skills training, mentorship and lots of bonding and fun. All participants will return to develop a Service Placement Projects for their own communities.
We are so excited for their journey.

After a week of immersive training, we can’t wait After a week of immersive training, we can’t wait to see what they’ll do next 👀
Our Collaboratorium brought together youths from all backgrounds, but the most incredible thing we witnessed is that more often than not, these young leaders were asking the same questions about water, climate resilience and tools to help build a better world for the next generations. And this week, they got to work answering them!
Their service placement project is only the beginning of their journey, and we truly hope that the network they built will follow them long after its delivery.

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and R September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Today, we recognize that holding space for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis voices—and acknowledging the hard truths of our shared history—must extend far beyond a single date on the calendar. This day honours the children who were taken to residential and day schools and never returned home, the Survivors who endured these institutions, and the families and communities still living with that loss. It is a call to learn this history for ourselves, to listen to Indigenous Peoples, and to commit to supporting Indigenous-led work and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action on every day that follows.
This week, the Y4RC Collaboratorium has brought participants together in Rocky Harbour, on Ktaqmkuk (today known as Newfoundland), the unceded traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. We wear orange today as an act of remembrance, mindful that we do so as guests on this land. We invite our community to visit the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at nctr.ca.
Every Child Matters.

Home to 20% of the world’s freshwater, Canada has 25 major watersheds, consisting of 8,500 rivers and 2 million lakes (!!!).
But melting glaciers, shifting precipitation patterns and increasingly intense and frequent droughts and floods are impacting river flow and affecting freshwater species, which have declined by 76% around the world over four decades.
This Sunday, we celebrate our rivers as we also recognize that they are under pressure 💙

“For my service placement project, I created an online, interactive directory of local food and farm resources in my home community of Pickering and the surrounding area. I created this directory to encourage people in my community to learn about and support local food systems, where food that is grown and sold locally has a significantly smaller carbon footprint than those from large cooperations.
Additionally, six times as much revenue generated from local businesses is recirculated back into the provincial economy compared to large cooperations, further strengthening our local communities.”
Congrats on a wonderful delivery Aneesha 💙

“Participants could observe leafcutter bee homes, bumble bees and miner bees in action, and a honey bee queen making her way through the hive. We talked about a lot, including important native plants and the ethics of honeybees.”
Many insect and bee populations are in decline due to effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Spreading awareness and tools for helping bees can be so crucial for their delicate life-cycles. Check out Pollinator Partnership Canada for super helpful resources tailored to your local area!

“Dear North Bay” was a participatory community visioning project led by one of the Y4RC Cohort 3 participants, that took place at the @cleangreenbeautifulnb Celebration, inviting residents to imagine a resilient future by writing a postcard from the future to reflect on what we need to protect and nurture today.
These collective visions will be transformed into a collaborative artwork for a new net-zero recreation centre, to spark continued dialogue around local climate action and resilience. 🩵
