The ocean covers the majority of the earth, but on The ocean covers the majority of the earth, but only a small portion of its waters has been explored. Despite humanity’s utter reliance on it, and compared to the breadth and depth of what it gives us, the ocean receives only a fragment of our attention and resources in return.
But tides are changing.
To celebrate the United Nations World Oceans Day 2023 theme, Planet Ocean, the United Nations is joining forces with decision makers, scientists, private sector executives, civil society representatives, indigenous communities, celebrities and youth activists and more to put the ocean first.

Meet Mexico's Loreta Castro Reguera, whose work fo Meet Mexico's Loreta Castro Reguera, whose work focuses on the design of infrastructural public spaces to better manage water through urban design.
"(The public space) has the possibility of acting, let's say, vertically, not only as an urban surface, but also in mitigating environmental problems (...) If we look at the urban sprawl of the most important cities in the world, it is impressive how these cities are expanding irregularly and without a structure, with no places to connect , to meet, to talk, to hang out, to catch the rain, or to recycle garbage, for example. That represents plenty of work for all the architects in the world, no? I think that (the public space) is a place where we must set our eyes as architects, as urban designers, if we really want to transform the cities in which we live."
