About the Great Waters Challenge

The Great Waters Challenge is a project funded by Canadian Heritage and delivered by Waterlution, launched in June 2016 and is running in stages until March 2018.  Designed by youth and for youth, the Great Waters Challenge is now in its second year, focused on offering water workshops in schools (Grade 4-12) across Canada. The purpose of this program is to invite youth to learn about their watershed and its history, and understand how water plays a role in shaping our identity, and our future.

Position Overview

The role of the Great Waters Challenge Coordinator requires the following key skill sets:

  • Superior project coordination skills, to support development and implementation of many aspects of the Great Waters Challenge, working with direction from the previous project leader and guidance from the Executive Director.
  • People management skills, as the coordinator will communicate and manage the newly selected Youth Advisory Board (volunteers) from provinces/territories across Canada with whom they will be closely corresponding and coordinating to deliver workshops in schools in communities.
  • Proven communication skills to prepare and share all material pertaining to school documents, guides, communication with teachers, developing content, ensuring adequate communication within the Youth Advisory Board team and increasing engagement strategies aligned with broader engagement goals.

Who can apply? Applications are open to candidates from the rising generation (18 – 35 years), living in or from the Great Lakes region (with preference to those in the Lake Erie basin). Applicants must have previous experience, or a strong desire, to focus their work on the Great Lakes or Lake Erie specifically. It would be best if you already have projects to bring forward, but a desire to support the ideas collectively agreed on is also welcome.

Waterlution is looking for young leaders from across Canada to join this youth-led water initiative for its second year!

Term : July 2017 – March 2018

Waterlution is selecting our second cohort of Youth Advisory Board (YAB) members for the Great Waters Challenge (GWC) in stage II, to build on the work that was accomplished in 2016-2017.  We are excited to have new young leaders join our team over the next 8 months!
